Field Guide to Hell (2017)

alto and baritone saxophones, electric guitar, string bass

I would not be a musician if it were not for my father. My earliest musical memories are of him playing guitar for me and my brother and his music serves as a constant source of inspiration.
The original Field Guide to Hell is a collection of poetry my dad wrote before I was born. Each movement of my piece is preceded by a quote from the Field Guide or from one of his songs. The quotes serve as signposts, directing the course of the music: from anger, to frustration, to reflection, to numb acceptance. The piece draws upon myriad influences, reflecting the wild world in which we live.
Field Guide to Hell is dedicated to my dad, for supporting me endlessly, encouraging me artistically, and loving me unconditionally.
