John Secunde

I have spent the majority of my life performing in bands, and so the sonic world of massed winds and percussion has imbedded itself in my compositional psyche. In writing Granite Flower, I strove to write a piece that would show the power, beauty, and color of the ensemble. The title alludes to the stone-like sonorities of the work, and the way it blossoms out from its simple generative motive; a step down, and then a step back up.
