Three Little Pieces (2016)

celesta

In the fall of 2016 I found myself drawn to the crystalline sound of the celesta. I discovered that this small instrument is capable of far more than conjuring sugar plum fairies; the sound was somehow sad, but playful. These pieces were written both as a compositional exercise in working out short, succinct ideas, and as an exploration of the sound of the instrument. This work is dedicated to Ethan Fields who lent me the staff paper on which I wrote these pieces.
