Sunset Chimneys (2016)

wind octet

One of my favorite spots in the world is Frye Island, which is in Sebago Lake in my home state, Maine. On the road leading to the ferry landing that takes you out to the island, there are many private lanes, but there is one that has always stood out to me: Sunset Chimneys Road. Sunset Chimneys is my tribute to Maine in the summertime. I thought of it as being a light serenade in the manner of Haydn. The germinating material for the piece is the opening melody of Brahms' Op. 117, No. 1, which serves as the theme to the final movement Theme and Variations.
